Prominent Egyptian actress Elham Shahin was being extremely honest when asked on the popular program “Al Bait Baitak” (The House is your House) on Egyptian television by the presenter if she would ever consider wearing the Islamic headdress Hijab.
The actress stressed she does not ever intend on ever wearing the Hijab or doing anything similar that may jeopardize her acting career.
According to the London based Elaph, Elham added that wearing the Hijab would mean that she does not agree on anything she has ever presented in the past quarter of a century throughout her acting career because it would suggest that her profession is a taboo and against the teaching of Islam.
The actress condemned the Egyptian television channel decision to not screen her latest television drama “Ahlam la Tanam” (Sleepless Dreams) during the holy month of Ramadan, when viewers hits are record high.
Elham had stipulated a payment of 3 million Egyptian pounds to play the leading role in the drama "Ahlam La Tanam".
The producer agreed to Elham's condition despite the fact that her wage is considered to be close to half of the budget for the drama, estimated at 7.5 million Egyptian pounds. The drama is directed by Majdi Abu Ameereh.
The actress stated that the drama is produced by the Media Production City, which is considered a semi-government agency and any work produced by them should have top priority to be screened on the Egyptian television channels.
She said she will not bother and make a big fuss about the matter and is more than satisfied that the Dubai satellite channel is screening the drama three times daily in addition to the Kuwaiti and Qatari television channels.
Elham noted that she considers herself along with prominent actresses Yusra and Laila Elwi a rare and unique generation of actresses that had contributed tremendously to Egyptian cinema, but stressed that she does not intend on taking part in any film unless its scenario is appropriate for her age and presents her in a dignified manner that reflects her great contributions to the acting world.
