The 22nd Arab Theatre Festival celebrated the memory of the founder and pioneer of Arab Theatre Zakki Tulaimat honoring 85 actors and actresses from the graduates of year 81-82. Doctor Hani Mutawe’, head of acting Academy, did the opening speech and asserted on the importance of ethics in this profession because the actors have a great influence on society.
According to the London based Elaph, Honor certificates where given to actors and actresses by Yusef Sha’ban head of the acting association. Among the honored actors and actresses who were awarded are Elham Shahin, Majida Zakki and her husband Kamal Abu Rayya, Ahmed Abdul Aziz, Mamdoh Darwish, Ahmed Salameh and many others.
Five trophies where given to artist Farouq Husni Egyptian minister of culture, Dr. Sameer Sarhan head of books association, Zakaria Suleiman former head of actors association, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim professor of interior design, the trophies were given to them for there significant contribution in enriching the Arab culture and Theatre.
Elham has announced that after taking part in three different television drama series this year; she will now concentrate her efforts on participating in different films during the year 2004. The actress revealed that she will take part in two different films starting with "Kan Youm Hubak" (The Day of Your Love), which is written by scenarist Murad Muneer.
Elham added that the other film she will act in is "Alsaid Yahibak" (The Mister Loves You), written by Raouf Tawfiq. Elham also revealed that she intends on staying away from the theater this year as well, saying that her last experience in the play "Bahlool in Istanboul", which lasted 5 years, alongside Egyptian actor Samir Ghanem was a successful one.
Recently, Shahin had expressed her anger over the schedule given to the television drama series that are aired during Ramadan, saying that her drama series “Nijmat Al Jamahir” (Superstar) was to be aired on a number of local and satellite television channels. The actress stressed that the series was noted to be among the best works to be produced this year and for that reason it should have been included in the month where the number of television viewers is at its peak.
Elham had sent a complaint to the Ministry of Information stating that “Nijmat Al Jamahir” does not coincide with her other drama series “Mas’alit Mabda” (A Matter of Priniciple), where the each can be aired on a separate Egyptian satellite channel. It was added that a number of other actors and actresses have sent similar complaints to the Ministry of Information stating that their drama series were also removed from the Ramadan TV lineup and moved to be aired at later times. - Albawaba.com
