Egyptian singer Ehab Tawfiq was shocked to discover that composer Mohammad Abdul Hai has accused him of stealing the song "Hubbak Alamni" (Your Love Taught Me), also the title of his latest album.
Ehab stated that he was appalled by the lawsuit Mohammad has filed against him, demanding an exorbitant sum of money, since he legally bought the rights to the song from composer Mohammad Raheem and poet Ikram Al Assi.
“If the song was originally written by Abdul Hai, then they are the ones, who should be prosecuted,” Ehab stated.
Abdul Hai, who filed the lawsuit, asserted that he is the one who wrote and composed the song three years ago and Egyptian singer Tamer Husni was supposed to sing it. He claims that he owns the intellectual propriety rights to the song and is demanding three million Egyptian pounds for damages caused by Ehab.
According to the London based daily, Dar Al Hayat, Mohammad Raheem claims that the lawsuit is nonsense, and he is a capable and talented composer who can write his own songs. He has written numerous songs for prominent singers like Amr Diab, Shireen Wajdi, Nawal Al Zoughbi, and Hisham Abbas.
Raheem added that he will not put the matter to rest and will make sure Abdul Hai is prosecuted for trying to jeopardize his reputation in the entertainment world.
A Cairo court is scheduled to determine a verdict in the case.
