Some Egyptian producers have postponed the release of new albums to a later date fearing of big losses, as was the case with the albums released last winter, according to the daily al Hayat.

The losses incurred by the producers amounted to 12 million pounds as a result of the latest releases, which reached about 30 albums. This has spurred them to postpone the release of new albums, which were due in the spring holidays.

The producers’ decision has come after reviewing Mohammed Munir’s new cassette Madad Ya Rasoul Allah released under the title al Arad wa al Silah (The Earth and The Weapon). The sales figures for the period between November 2001 and end of March 2002 revealed that the fans refrained from buying new albums for many reasons. The most important reason has been the condition of the Arab people since the beginning of the Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people.

The statistical data confirmed that listeners in Egypt and the Arab world have turned in the past few months towards patriotic songs released by the companies which own such a quality of songs. Among these companies is Cairo Voice for Audiovisual, which owns more than 80 percent of the songs recorded by male and female singers for the Radio and TV.

However, a study expected the losses to reach 20 million pounds -- Albawaba.com
