After three years of obstacles, production and censorship problems, the series al Amira That al Hemma (Princess of Determination) written by Mohammed al Sayyed Eid will be aired.
The 29-episode series recalls the life history of the Arab heroin Fatma Bint Mathloom who belongs to Bani Kulaib tribe in the Sham Desert. She then moved to live in Turkey after she conquered many Roman cities. She represents the type of women equivalent to the Arab knight Antara bin Shaddad.
Fatma managed to unify Arabs and lead Arab armies to fight enemies. The pop heritage researcher, Shawki Abdel Hakim found the life history of the Princess of Determination in 23,000 pages at the British Museum library while he was studying in Europe.
“I summarized many details on the biography in 70 sections of seven folders with each folder comprising of 10 parts. I began with the struggles which the princess faced with her cousin Ebn al Hareth who loved her unilaterally. This is in addition to the story of Caesar’s daughters who dreamt of defeating the Arabs and occupying their lands and the princess conflict with her enemies who convinced the Arab Caliph Haroun al Rashid of removing her out of his way so that her fame wouldn’t affect him,” the writer told the daily al Hayat.
Explaining the reason behind the delay in wrapping up the series, Eid said, “the series includes many battles which need big direction efforts at a time when directors are selective in implementing the series offered to them. Also the series needs hefty financing which has at last been secured.”
Eid has recently wrapped up the script of the series Qasem Amin which director Ena’am Mohammed Ali is currently shooting. Costarring in the series Kamal Abu Rayya and Mirna Murad.
Qasem Amin is a very important Egyptian intellectual and writer who called for the women’s liberation through his books, Tahrir al Marah (Women’s Liberation) and al Mara’a al Gadidah (The New Woman) -- Albawaba.com
