The High Institute of Music in Syria, in cooperation with the embassy of Egypt, presented the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra (SNSO) in a concert performed last week at the Umayyad Conference Palace in Damascus, according to the daily Syria Times.
The concert was conducted by Ahmed al Saedi. This is the third time that this renowned Egyptian maestro conducts the Syrian young orchestra.
Saedi who is the principal conductor of Cairo Symphony (CS), has toured with the CS in many European countries. After having studied conducting and composition at the " Hochschule fuer Musik und darstellende Kunst" of Vienna, he made his debut at the "Wiener Konzerhaus" in 1982, appeared as conductor in many and far-apart countries in three continents and won many prizes, beside his numerous recordings.
First the SNSO played Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. This is a lovely gem of early romantic music creation. The two movements flow smoothly and peacefully in an unending flow of enchanting tunes. Schubert is here the poet, the Lieder composer and the introspective and sensitive artist and human. The SNSO under the baton of this highly motivated and absorbed conductor gave a fantastic and singing performance of Schubert's masterpiece. It was received with high applause.
The second work was Mozart's Flute Concerto in G major. Inas Abdel Dayem played the solo part. Dayem is the professor of this instrument in Cairo Conservatory and is also a well-known artist that appears both in Egypt and abroad. The performance of Mozart happy work was a real joy to the audience. It proved that Dayem is an artist of high caliber and of original musicianship.
After the intermission, the SNSO resumed its music performance by playing Beethoven's Fifth Symphony in C minor – Albawaba.com
