Egypt Cancels National Film Fest Celebrations

In view of the current circumstances, the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Farouq Hosni decided to cancel all celebrations and shows at the 8th Egyptian Film Festival except for the jury which will go ahead with its tasks. The results will be announced as scheduled and the prizes will be handed out at a later date. 

“This year the festival will include only the two contests for the narrative and documentary and the short narrative films,” the festival head, Ali Abu Shadi told the daily al Hayat indicating that all concerts and conferences would be cancelled this year in view of the current circumstances and in order to assert the support of artists, intellectuals and journalists for the Palestinian issue. 

The narrative film contest includes 22 films while the documentary film contest includes 49. The festival’s inauguration was scheduled for next Tuesday at the Opera House in Cairo. 

“22 films will participate in the festival including Ayyam al Sadat (Sadat Days), Ashab Wala Business (Friends or Business), 55 Esa’f (55 Rescue), Africano, al Labbis (Elegant), Gawaz Biqarar Gomhuri (Wedding by Royal Decree), Gala Gala, Asrar al Banat (Girls Secrets) and al Naa’amah (Ostrich). These are in addition to al Taous (Peacock), Rashah Gareeah, Sukoot Hansawwar (Quiet, We Will Shoot), al Saher (Magician), Gaana al Bayan Attali (We Have Received the Following Communiqué), Gahim Tahet al Ard (Hell Underground), Muwaten, Mukhber Wa Harami (Citizen, Detective and Thief), Rihlet Hobb (Love Journey), al Sullam wa al Thua’ban (Ladder and Snake), Randivo (Dating), al Hobb al Hakiki (Real Love), Fares Dhahr al Khail (Horse Back Knight), Lahathat Hobb (Love Moments) and Law Kan Dah Holm (Had This Been a Dream),” said Abu Shadi. 

He added, “five of those who enriched the art movement including Nadia Lutfi, Kamal al Sheilkh, Samir Awf, Ramsis Marzouq and Munir Ibrahim will be honored at the festival.” -- Albawaba.com
