The fifth International Music Festival was opened in Kuwait few days ago and will continue until June 20, 2002. The festival was opened under the auspices of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature secretary general Mohammed al Remaihi, according to the daily al Rai al A’m.
The festival was launched by inaugurating the Kuwaiti musical instrument show, which includes a rare collection about to become extinct, that express the originality and beauty of the Kuwaiti tune. It also includes a number of photos that write the art history of the country.
After the expo was opened, singing and music activities kicked off through an Eastern concert performed by the Original Art Troupe led by Jamal al Khalab. This included songs by the troupe and some talented promising young singers.
The feature began with a musical piece entitled Samae’i Mhayyar composed by Jamil Beih followed by the song Beid Annak (far away from you) composed by Baligh Hamdi and sung by Bader al Hazzaa who sang also Gana al Hawa (love has came). Then Samira sang Fayek Ya Hawa composed by Filmon Wahbi, followed by Rahabani songs and Mohammed al Mougi’s Ana Albi Eleik Mayyal. The promising voice of Faisal al Shomar who sang Mudhnaka Gafahu composed by Mohammed Abdel Wahab followed by Karem Mahmoud’s Ennabi which concluded the festival.
Since 1982 and upon an initiative from the French Ministry of Culture, June 21 has become the Music Day. On this day concerts are performed by professional artists and amateurs in squares, public gardens and music halls in France.
