Lady Gaga brought her unique brand of out-there fashion to the Oscars on Sunday- but hit something of a bum note.

The 28-year-old singer wore a boxy Azzedine Alaia gown - but it was her bizarre red washing-up-style gloves which cause the most sartorial consternation.

Twitter was immediately ablaze with jokes, including one hilarious meme in which someone had superimposed a bottle of washing up liquid into her hand.

Another meme saw Gaga wearing an apron over her outfit, while another compared her to meth-maker Walter White and his blue gloves from Breaking Bad.

OK! TV host Jaymes Vaughan, who has almost 17,000 followers wrote next to a snap of Gaga: 'Love #GaGa but... when you're washing the dishes at 5:00 but your remember you gotta be at the Oscars by 5:10.'

Twitter users @brebro simply wrote, next to a comparison snap with Captain America: 'Am I too late for a 'Who wore it better? #Oscars2015 joke? #gaga.'

Speaking to ABC on the red carpet Gaga again spilled on her recent engagement to actor Taylor Kinney.

The singer, who performed a medley of songs from The Sound Of Music at the ceremony, gave him a shout out, explaining he couldn't make it to the event because he had work in the morning.

'Yes I am engaged to Taylor. He is wonderful,' she told ABC.

Said she she has not had time to do any wedding plan yet as she's been busy preparing for the Oscars performance, which she said she has put her 'heart and soul into preparing for'.

She added that Chicago Fire star Taylor, 33, has been 'wonderfully supportive' and gave him a shout out saying 'hi honey'.

Gaga added: 'He's at home watching. He has work in the morning.'

And of the performance she said: 'I'm so excited to be entertaining people and performing at the Oscars'.

Speaking to Extra host Mario Lopez, Gaga justified her decision to wear the red gloves - rather than show off her heart-shaped Lorraine Schwartz sparkler.

She explained that the Azzedine Alaia gown was hand embroidered and took 1600 houra work by 25 dress designers.

'Mr. Alaïa designed the gloves before [Taylor and I] got engaged and I wanted to keep the look exactly as he envisioned it.'

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Gaga talked about the proposal in more detail.

'First he gave me a Ring Pop. That was kind of amazing and I was crying, I was so excited.'

She went on: 'I said, "Yes!" right away and then he pulled out the heart-shape diamond.'

Inside the ceremony Gaga was seen sat next to her father Joe Germanotta and a video on Vine shows her affectionately placing one of her glove-clad hands on his face.
