Egyptian actress Yasmin Abdulaziz has taken to Instagram to defend her ex-husband, actor Ahmed El-Awady, from accusations of infidelity.
The couple announced their divorce on Sunday, after three years of marriage.
In a lengthy post, Abdulaziz wrote: "I swear in front of God that this man did not cheat on me at all the last five years of marriage and our divorce is just fate and is out of our hands." She added that she respects and appreciates El-Awady, and asked the media and the public to respect their privacy and refrain from spreading false rumors.
The divorce came as a shock to many fans and followers, who had witnessed the couple's love and support for each other on social media and in various projects. They met on the set of the series Elly Malouche Kabir (The One Who Doesn't Have a Master), which aired in 2020, and got married in a private ceremony in Cairo in 2021. They starred together in several other works, such as the movie 30 March and the series Al-Malek (The King), which is currently airing on MBC.
Some media outlets had speculated that the couple had separated before Abdulaziz's health crisis in 2021, when she underwent surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst and was hospitalized for several weeks. El-Awady was by her side during her recovery, but he did not accompany her to Switzerland, where she traveled for further treatment.
The couple also faced a controversial prediction by a Lebanese astrologer, Laila Abdellatif, who said that they would split up in 2024 or 2025. They both mocked her forecast at the time, but it seems that it has come true sooner than expected.
Many celebrities commented on their divorce posts, offering their support and sympathy. Abdelaziz and El-Awady have not revealed the reason behind their decision, but they thanked their fans for their love and prayers.
