She took to her Instagram story on the way, showing off her new haircut and her funeral look.
The 27-year-old donned a black blazer over a black and white mini dress with strappy black stilettos and a pair of round black sunglasses.
While en route, she posted a screenshot as she listened to See You Again by Wiz Khalifa, featuring Charlie Puth.
Lovato took a snap of the theater, which read 'Tommy Trussell: Celebration of Life' on the marquee.
She also shared photos of her funeral program and her new tattoo commemorating Trussell.
The Sorry Not Sorry recently debuted the tattoo of his initial 'T' in classic calligraphy on her forearm.
She included a black-and-white photo of her friend with an uplifting message for those struggling with addiction.
Lovato wrote: 'Btw, for those who don't know, this man fought his demons every damn day. He tried. He really did.
'He had a heart of gold and said if he died he wanted his struggles to be known so they could help others. He was too good for this planet. If you're struggling, please ask for help. That's what he would've wanted.'
Trussell was discovered the morning of October 8, having suffered from a fatal overdose.
His death comes just over a year after Lovato was hospitalized herself due to a drug overdose.
