The Darb 1718 Contemporary Art & Culture Centre has issued an open call for participation in an intensive screenwriting workshop led by award-winning Lebanese-American screenwriter, director and producer Darine Hotait, starting on 16 January 2013. Hotait is also the founder of Cinephilia Productions based in Los Angeles and New York.
The workshop will focus on the elements of producing a well-structured short film, idea development, storyline construction, and dialogue. The workshop intends to leave participants with a fully completed first draft of a short film.
Each participant will also receive a 20-minute one-on-one script writing session with Hotait, an opportunity to have their film produced by Cinephilia Productions, and possibly have it screened at the Outbox Film Festival in Beirut.
The workshop programme includes discussion on finding inspiration, developing a theme and concept for a short film, learning storytelling techniques, character development, writing ethics, pitching and marketing screenplays, among other topics.
The deadline for registration is 14 January, and the workshop will be fully conducted in English.
