Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities.

Sony has released the first trailer for its upcoming superhero origin story, Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson as a psychic paramedic who must save a group of girls from a sinister Spider-Man.

The trailer opens with Johnson’s character, Cassandra Webb, having a vision of a diner where four girls are attacked by a man in a black Spider-Man suit. She rushes to the scene, only to find out that it was a premonition of what is about to happen. She tries to warn the girls, played by Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Emma Roberts, but they are skeptical of her claims. As the Spider-Man arrives, he chokes one of the girls and stabs Cassandra in the stomach, before she wakes up outside the diner and says, “Let’s try that again.”

The trailer then reveals the identity of the Spider-Man, who is Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim), a former colleague of Cassandra’s mother who also has spider-like powers and clairvoyance. He tells Cassandra that he is trying to prevent a terrible future that involves the girls, who are somehow connected to her. He shows her glimpses of the girls wearing their own Spider-Man suits and fighting crime. “You have no idea what those girls become,” he says.

Cassandra, however, is not convinced by Sims’ motives and decides to protect the girls from him. She uses her psychic abilities to help them escape and fight back. She also learns more about her own origin and the mystery of her mother’s death, which is linked to a secret experiment involving spiders. “Your future was almost so different!” she yells at the girls. “If you want to live, you have to trust me.”

Madame Web is directed by SJ Clarkson, who is known for her work on TV shows such as Jessica Jones, The Defenders, and Succession. The film also features Mike Epps as Cassandra’s partner and Adam Scott as a reporter who is investigating the Spider-Man killings. The film is set to hit theaters on Feb. 14, 2024.
