Egyptian film critics and journalists are blasting director Yousef Shahin, who said they were "like donkeys" for not understanding his film Sukout Hansawar(Quiet, We Will Shoot).
Critic Tareq Al Shinnawi criticized Shahin for his statement, reiterating that the film “lacks all kinds of dimensions.”
"What Shahin said about film critics just for criticizing his film is some kind of shame,” the Qatari daily Al Rayah cited Shinnawi as saying.
Awni Al Husseini, a journalist at Al Wafd newspaper, also criticized Shahin’s statement, saying the director “has the right to describe Egyptian critics as he pleases, as he grew up among tolerant Egyptian critics, particularly in view of the fact that they hailed him for all his films which had many orientations.
"The critics have been rewarded for all that by being described by Shahin as donkeys because they did not praise his film.”
Another critic also criticized the film, dubbing it “Quiet, We Will Sleep” and adding other statements about its shortcomings.
Despite all these criticisms, some tried to be fair with Shahin, viewing the film as the director's first stab at comedy – Albawaba.com
