Coppola wins Arab hearts after highlighting US prejudice towards the Middle East

American director Francis Ford Coppola admitted during a press conference organized in the Morroccan city of Marrakesh, Tuesday, that his country doesn't have any knowledge about the civilization here in the Middle East. 

 

“I am sorry for America's lack of knowledge of the Arab civilization in this part of the world,” Coppola said after he was honored at the second international Film Festival. 

 

Winning all the admiration and applause of the attendants for his courage, Coppola added, “my pilots were scared when I told them I’m heading for Morocco. I interpreted their fear as part of the American people’s lack of knowledge about others cultures.” 

 

The director of “Godfather” and “Resurrection Now” continued saying, “If I only was an influential figure, I would have done anything after September 11, to help the American people acquire a better knowledge about this splendid culture (Arab Culture).” 

 

Coppola revealed that the credit for his awareness of the Arab culture goes to three elements, his grandmother, his bother and his own Italian origin.  

 

Addressing the situation in the Middle East he concluding explaining that, “as long as there is no justice, there will be no peace.” 

 

Coppola’s statements have surprised all participants particularly in view that they came few days after the first anniversary of September 11 attacks. - Albawaba.com
