Award-winning doc takes the UAE's scrimpers and savers to the cinema this month

Travancore: A Saga of Benevolence

The award-winning documentary Travancore: A Saga of Benevolence will be screened for free for the public on January 14 and 15 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The first public screening will be at the National Theatre in the capital at 9.30pm, and will screen a day later in Dubai at Dubai Women’s College Auditorium.

The documentary traces the story of the royal house of Travancore in Kerala. UAE-based businessman Dr B R Shetty plays Dharmaraja, the King of Travancore in the documentary that won the Kerala State film award in 2011. UAE’s money exchange honcho Sudhir Kumar Shetty figures as Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma.

Directed and produced by B Jayachandran, the documentary is based on the royal house’s famous Mathilakam records.
