Chris Hemsworth has revealed he'd 'love to' play James Bond after Daniel Craig hangs up his gun-holster for good with Bond 25.

The actor, 35, expressed his interest in the role while talking with Balance magazine on Monday, after the publication pointed out his critically-acclaimed performance as British Formula One driver James Hunt made him a perfect candidate.

He explained: 'When we were shooting Rush someone had said that and I thought, "Cool, if this is my audition tape, then great." I don't think you'll ever meet anyone who doesn't want to have a crack at James Bond. I'd love to do it.

'But that's up to so many elements and is way beyond myself; it's not one you can pitch yourself on to either,' the Thor star added quickly.

Chris added: 'It's something that the community of Bond fans, Barbara Broccoli and the whole crew there agree on, and it has to be a very organic decision from them. There have been a lot of names thrown out there and a lot of brilliant people can tackle that one.'

Indeed, there have been a number of different actors tipped to play 007, including Idris Elba, Richard Madden and Tom Hiddleston.

Daniel is set to become the longest-standing James Bond, as the 51-year-old actor will beat his predecessors to be the longest-serving Bond this Wednesday with a record-breaking 4,527 days in the role.

Daniel, who took to our screens with his debut Bond film Casino Royal in November 2006, will beat former Bond actor Roger Moore, who lasted 4,526 days in the role and Sean Connery, who spent nine years as Bond, to be the longest-serving actor with a licence to kill.

Pierce Brosnan, who made his first appearance in the Bond movies with Goldeneye in 1995, spent seven years in the iconic role before handing it over in 2002.

While Timothy Dalton, who took to our screen with The Living Daylights in 1987, spent three years in the role and George Lazenby only one with his Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service in 1969.

Daniel's record-breaking achievement comes after he said 'I would rather slash my wrists than play James Bond again' in 2015.

The comments, which came after the release of the movie Spectre, were later cleared up in an interview with American talk show host Stephen Colbert in 2017.

While speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Daniel said: 'It was two days after I finished shooting the last movie. I went straight to an interview and someone said would you do another one?

'And I went 'no' and instead of saying something with style and grace I gave a really stupid answer.'

During the show, Daniel also confirmed that he would be reprising his role as the British Secret Service agent for the 25th Bond film, which is set for release in 2020.

Chris also talked about his latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame, where he will reprise his role as God of Thunder Thor.

The actor admitted he has 'never been more excited' for the franchise to return, as he felt that filming the superhero flick felt like a 'once in a lifetime opportunity'.

Thor has been a staple part of the franchise since the character's self-titled debut film in 2011, which spawned two more solo flicks and a spot on the Avengers team from day one.

Discussing his character's latest solo outing in Thor: Ragnarok, the Australian star admitted he was 'genuinely proud' of the film as it felt like a 'turning point' for him as an actor, as well as for the Asgardian deity himself.
