Algerian Rai King Cheb Khaled is hoping to reach an agreement with what he describes as the "Arab singing princess", Warda Al Jazaeriyah, for a duet, according to the UAE daily, Al Bayan newspaper.
"I respect the renowned singer for her contribution to the Arab music world," said Khaled, adding that singing with her might produce an unprecedented musical masterpiece.
Responding to a question as to whether Warda can adapt to Rai music, in which he surpasses others, Khaled said, "Warda is a prominent star and being an Algerian, she will not find Rai as something strange to her." Citing some of Warda’s songs composed by Baligh Hamdi as examples, including parts from the Algerian heritage cadences.
On another note, the Rai star added that he contacted the Algerian musician, Al Safi Boutellah, after an 8-year rift, revealing a joint project between both of them that could take Rai back to its roots. Another current project he is gearing up for is a new song with renowned US singer Quincy Jones.
In response to a question about the criticism he faced following his performance with an Israeli singer, Khaled said, "I am an artist and as art is anti racial-discrimination, I cannot be an artist and a racist simultaneously."
"When I refuse to sing with someone based on their ethnic origin or religion, I would undoubtedly be a racist and far away from the essence of art," concluded Khaled. - Albawaba.com
