The administration of the Carthage Theater Days recently organized a special program entitled “24 Hours For Palestine” in which plays were performed by troupes from the occupied and autonomous territories, according to news agencies.
The Tal Al Fokhar troupe from Acre performed the play Fatima, about a female doctor who leaves for Germany after she suffers nervous breakdown.
The doctor stays in a mental hospital for a long time waiting for her brother to take her home, during which time she reclaims her past and memories.
Palestinian director Samia Qazmir Bakri presented her play Ara Ma Urid (I See What I Want), which is based on the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish’s work of the same title. The play depicts the intellectual’s alienation and frustration.
A competitor in the formal contest, the play Turab Wa Orjowan (Soil and Purple), by Sawsan Darwaza, is a sequence of mythological sketches about the land of "Canaan" revolving around one theme: human suffering in the past and present.
“The program emphasizes the importance of the Palestinian theater, which fights two battles, self-affirmation and defending violated rights and the Palestinian identity, and establishing a new Palestinian theater that addresses modern rhythms,” said the festival organizer.
