Tunisia is witnessing these days the first Cartage Dancing Festival which will continue till May 8, 2001 with the participation of more than 23 shows from all over the world, according to the UAE al Bayan.
The festival head artist Siham Balkhokhah said in a press conference that the reason behind the delay in announcing this festival was the Tunisian Ministry of Culture which did not give the green light for the event except in the last moment. She pointed out that the festival aims at achieving two objectives. First to make dancing an independent art like other arts and secondly to make art as continuity tool between the Mediterranean and other civilizations.
A group of Tunisian veteran dancers will be honored at the festival. An exhibition for the artist Patricia Traiki and a photographic fair will be organized under the title “30 Years of Dancing in Germany” and another one entitled “Dancing Panorama in Tunisia” for Bu Zaid session.
Also a conference entitled “What Does Chirography Mean?” will be held under the supervision of Phillip Firyal as 30 video films on many subjects including dancing filming and dancing in his movement will be shown.
These shows focusing on dance will tackle many aspects including gracefulness, professionalism, tensions, spontaneity, South American legends, persistence and body power in addition to new developments in classical dance and the relation between the place and body and between emotion and body.
Among the important shows are the Arabian Nights which is a joint Tunisian and French production, Spanish show “Transparent Romance” on war, Algerian show “Algeria, Algeria” and the show Rahal (He Left) by Emad Juma’h from Tunisia -- Albawaba.com
