Lebanese singer Carol Samaha has recently held a photo session wearing the costume for her role in the play “Zanoubia”, as part of the promotional campaign for the play, which will be showing in Dubai on April 18 through the 23. The play, which is a musical, is written by Mansour Al Rahbani and directed by Marwan Al Rahbani.
Osama, Marwan, and Elias Khoury composed all the music for the play. Carol will be playing the main role as Queen Zanoubi, which was a role previously played by Tunisian singer Latifa.
The cast of the play is over 130 actors and great efforts have been placed in organizing for the showing of the play. The play marks Carol’s return to the theater after a four year absence.
Carol had in the past announced that she did not intend on returning to the theater. Rumors claimed that Carol changed her mind after Latifa backed out, but Carol stated that the news is not true but rather that the play was originally written for her two years ago and because her preoccupation with her singing career she could not accept the role.
She added that the makers of the play “the Rahbanis” decided to reshow the play this year and called her while she was residing in Paris offering her the leading role alongside Anthony Karbaj and Ghassan Saliba.
Carol said that she had headed off to Dubai and agreed with the Rahbanis on all the details except the wage. At the time due to the issue of the wage Carol had backed out and Latifa was called in instead. At the time when Latifa backed out the Rahbanis called Carol back and renegotiated the matter with her until an agreement was reached.
Samaha recently appeared as a guest the program "Fiha Aih" (So What) to be aired on the music satellite channel ‘Rotana’ with television announcer Wafa Al Kilani in the near future.
According to the London based Elaph, the episode is intriguing. Carol discusses several personal matters, including her childhood. She grew up in an ordinary home, said Carol, and her parents were both teachers whose main concern was to raise their children in the best way possible.
Carol also discussed her previous business manager Nicola Sa'adeh and the reasons behind their breakup.
She addresses the real reason she left Lebanon and the rumors of a rich tycoon she supposedly married, and even the rumor of her attempted suicide on a railway train in London.
Carol has made several changes in her career and has come to an agreement with a new business manager Hania Rafaat who will open new horizons for the singer through a new strategy. Hania has vowed to make Carole’s popularity in the Arab world extend worldwide.
