Calling all animators. The region’s first every International Animation Film Festival is all set to launch on April 22. Called Animate Dubai, the four-day event endorsed by Dubai Art Season, will see film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, live performances, and funding initiatives, say organisers.
“Animate Dubai is a UAE-based force with the sole purpose of stimulating quality animation,” said Lina Younes, who also founded The Animation Chamber in 2012, a grassroots Dubai-based organisation that started out as the UAE’s first stop-motion collective and educational initiative.
“Through our work at The Animation Chamber, we realised that the UAE is home to an animation sector that shows considerable talent and creative potential. Animate Dubai [will] strive to encourage UAE-based animation makers and fans to provide them with an international showcase. It is the first in the region to create the infrastructure catering to the industry’s bloom.”
Event organisers are also inviting artists across the UAE to get involved. Films, both features and shorts, can be submitted until February 8. Go to animatedubai.com
