ALBAWABA - Reynolds, 47, and Blake Lively, 37, are vying for box office dominance this summer with their respective roles in Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends With Us. On the other hand, Marvel's trash-talking antihero made more money than the Colleen Hoover book adaptation did during its debut weekend in cinemas.
After this weekend's box office success, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds—a married couple—have reason to celebrate more than just their romance. Actors Reynolds (Marvel blockbuster "Deadpool & Wolverine") and Lively (adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel "It Ends With Us") both have huge movies playing at local multiplexes. Both films had fantastic opening weekends, with "Deadpool" earning $54 million and "Us" pulling in a close second with $50 million.
Not only are both films doing well at the box office, but Lively and Reynolds are the only married pair to do so since Demi Moore and Bruce Willis 34 years ago, according to these totals. In 1990, the highest-grossing films in a single weekend were "Die Hard 2," starring Willis, and "Ghost," directed by Moore. But Moore would come out on top in the end, thanks to the box office smash "Ghost" (which earned Moore many Oscar nominations and wins) and the highest domestic revenue of the year.
Deadpool & Wolverine, the third and likely final installment in the Deadpool film trilogy, officially surpassed the $1 billion milestone at the box office on Saturday, August 10. With Lively's discreet appearance as Lady Deadpool, the action-packed picture earned $54.2 million for its third weekend in theaters.
Lively's It Ends With Us, which premiered on August 9 and allegedly made $50 million during its opening weekend, was just behind her husband's film. The Hollywood Reporter estimated that the film would earn $23 million at the box office, but speculation about alleged behind-the-scenes conflict may have driven ticket sales higher.
The 36-year-old Lively's relationship with her co-star and film director Justin Baldoni has been the subject of much speculation among TikTok detectives for weeks. Baldoni, 40, did not appear in photos with cast members or producer Blake Lively during the film's press tour. Also, Baldoni seems to have passed up a lot of interview chances. An infection led to Baldoni's hospital admission in early June.
