The fourth panel discussion in the 'Archives of an Artist' series at Saad Zaghloul Cultural Center in Cairo, set for 3 January, will be centred around Bassem Yousri, 32, an Egyptian visual artist and independent filmmaker who has exhibited in local galleries and worldwide art spaces.
Driven by human rights, socio-political transformations and the interplay of art with the public, Yousri’s work takes various shapes, from installation to street art to experimental documentaries. His artwork has appeared in collective as well as solo shows in the United States, Germany and other European countries, and in the Arab world.
The Saad Zaghloul Cultural Centre in Cairo has inaugurated in October the 'Archives of an Artist' project to showcase young Egyptian artists and their international art projects.
The series of seminars aims to present information and provide insight into the Egyptian youth art movement, and build an archive of homegrown artwork.
'Archives of an Artist' is the brainchild of artist Ibrahim Saad, who explained that the initiative is essentially a discussion circle that presents young artists who have taken substantial steps in their art careers, yielding extraordinary artwork that is exhibited both locally and globally.
