In solidarity with the Palestinian victims, the Egyptian troupe Banat al Nil, supervised by Mervat Garrana, played a group of the most powerful Arab national songs through a concert held Saturday at al Gomhuria Theatre in Cairo, according to al Ahram Weekly.
Banat al Nil musical troupe played songs such as Fairouz's Zahrat al Mada'in (The Rose Among Minarets), Amal Maher's Arabia Ya Ard Filistin (Palestine is an Arab Land) and Kol Haq Arabi (Each Arab Right). This is in addition to playing songs by Umm Kulthoum, Leila Murad, Sayyed Darwish among others.
On Thursday, the audience of al Gomhuria Theatre will enjoy listening to Jazz music by Yehia Khalil who will play a group of his own oriental compositions as well as works by international jazz composers.
Meanwhile, Cairo Opera House hosts during this week many musical activities. The first was a spring concert including works by Strauss the son, Korsakov and Dvorak, performed Saturday at the Main Hall by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ahmed al Saedi featuring Russian soprano Elena Kononeko.
On Sunday, at the same hall, a concert was performed by Cairo Opera Company, directed by Gihan Mursi and Cairo Opera Orchestra, conducted by maestro Jean-François Alexandre, through which they presented songs from the classic film The Sound of Music.
Organist and pianist Fathi Salama, along with his Sharqiat troupe played on Saturday at the Open-Air Theatre, a group of his compositions, which are a blend of oriental and western music, such as Raqsat al Gamal (Camel Dance).
The Small Hall at the Cairo Opera House hosts three concerts, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The first was a recital by Iraqi pianist Sultan al Khatib. The second was and electronic music concert featured the music of Mohammed Abdel Wahab accompanied by the choir and computerized compositions of Walad al Balad and a new musical vision on Abdel Halim Hafez's song Resalah Men Taht al Maa (Message from Under Water). The last will be a musical concert performed by the Opera String Quartet – Albawaba.com
