ALBAWABA - Avatar: Fire and Ash continues its fiery box office dominance worldwide.

"Avatar: Fire and Ash" is already over $1 billion at the world box office, just 18 days after it came out. The ticket sales add up to over a billion dollars: $306 million in the US and $777.1 million in other countries.

The third installment went past the billion-dollar mark, but not as quickly as the previous one. "Avatar: The Way of Water" from 2022 joined the billion-dollar club after just 14 days, and "Avatar" from 2009 hit that goal after 17 days. Of course, those movies stayed popular in theaters, topping the box office for seven weeks in a row. They ended up being two of the biggest movies in history. The first Na'vi movie made $2.9 billion, and the second one made $2.3 billion.

It is still unclear if "Avatar 3" will be able to make over $2 billion in profits worldwide. Getting to this highly desired goal will depend on foreign audiences, who were mostly responsible for the first two movies' giant success. "Avatar" was a giant hit, making $2.1 billion in overseas markets alone. The follow-up also did well, bringing in $1.65 billion from foreign markets. In the third entry, the foreign areas that made the most money were China ($138 million), France ($81 million), Germany ($64 million), and Korea ($44 million).

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” is the third movie that Disney released in 2025 that made over a billion dollars. The other two were “Lilo & Stitch” and “Zootopia 2.” (For comparison, none of its rivals have had a single billion-dollar movie since 2023.) This studio's year has been outstanding, and it made more than $6.58 billion in income worldwide for the first time since COVID-19. Disney has the most market share and has made $2 billion more than its closest competitor.

"Fire and Ash" is about Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), their family, and their fight against a new enemy made of fire. James Cameron directed this movie, and it is the fourth one to make over a billion dollars, including Titanic. Cameron, who has three $2 billion hits to his name, planned five movies in the Pandora series. But he has since joked about calling a news conference to decide whether or not to make “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5” or end the series with the third movie.

Cameron told Variety before the opening weekend of "Fire and Ash," "We’re getting ahead of ourselves [with 'Avatar 4'], because, first of all, we’ve got to make some money with this one." "We have to show this ridiculous business case over and over every time we go out."
