Prominent Lebanese singer Assi Hilani has recently released a new single under the title “Beirut am Tibky” (Beirut is Crying). The song is written by Nizar Francis and is composed by Assi himself.
According to the London based weekly, Laha, the new song revolves around the recent events that took place in Lebanon with the assassination of former PM Rafiq Al Hariri. Assi stressed that he felt that the only way he can show the feelings of sadness he was feeling is through a song that will reach people’s hearts.
Recently, the United Nations Cairo office held a celebration for the joining of Hilani as a friend to the UN for his numerous charitable and humanitarian efforts throughout the Arab world. The singer was honored with an award of appreciation at the event.
Assi thanked everyone at the UN office for the generous gesture and stressed that he joins his voice to that of Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General, with regards to placing great emphasis on issues that concern the youth. The singer added that he is more than willing to take part in the charitable events held by the UN anywhere around the world.
Hilani has announced that he has received an offer from an Italian production company to sing a duet with female Italian singer, whom he is being secretive about mentioning her name. the company had requested Assi to present his portfolio and he requested that of the female singer in order to learn more about her and her style in singing. It has not been revealed what language the duet will be sung in.
