Egyptian actor Amro Waked announced that he boycotted the first parliamentary elections to take place in Egypt this week, after the January 25 Revolution that overthrew the government of former President Husni Mubarak.
Amro posted a statement on his official website that the elections will not represent the real aspirations of Egyptians to live in a democratic country.
The People’s Council will not be represented in the new government, wrote Amro, predicting that National and Islamist parties will win the election.
“The only thing that will save Egypt is ousting the current Military Council that is ruling the land and seizing political power,” said Amro. “The Military Council has failed tremendously in managing the country since they took power on February 11,” he said.
The Military Council as been implementing laws that violate basic democratic rights of citizens, like prohibiting public demonstrations, according to Amro.
