A joint American, British and Egyptian film is expected to be produced soon at a cost about 40 million dollars. The film will be based on the historical incident in the Egyptian village of Denshway, which took place in 1906.
The chairman and owner of the Super Global Network Company, Ahmed Naser, told AFP Monday in Cairo that he and his British and American partners would produce the film which is based on Denshway incident in 1906.
“The film will cost 40 million dollars and each party will bear one third of the cost. The Australian star Nicole Kidman, British actor Peter Otool and the Egyptian star Omar al Sherif were nominated to take leading parts in the film in addition to other acators from the three countries participating in the production,”
However, Denshway incident took place in 1906 when British soldiers held quick field trials for the Egyptian nationals living in the village north of Egypt as a punishment for them over the killing of a British soldier who was along with his companions hunting the pet birds belonging to the village inhabitants. Six people were executed in the village courtyard as a result of these hasty trials.
Among the British partners is the former British Finance Minister and Chairman of Beach Field Company, Sir John Hanom. Naser declined to mention the name of the American partner because, as he says, negotiations are still going on despite his confirmation that the American Company owns large studios.
“We have visited the Media Production City to study the possibility of making the film there particularly in view of the fact that it has the best studios in the Middle East. But the possibility of implementing the film abroad stands a very big chance too,” added Naser.
“The production process will also include shooting a 90-minute documentary film which provides an in depth description of the event from the Egyptian and British points of view. This is in addition to interviews with the grandsons of the British soldiers, village residents and historians from both sides,” Naser said.
He confirmed that the script writer Anthony Torenpaul had visited Egypt many times and thought of the story during his stay in Aswan where he read a whole chapter of a book by the British writer Bernard Shaw on the incident describing it as important.
“The script is based on the original event mentioned in the minutes of meetings convened at the British House of Common and individual testimonies. The film will be entitled Hadatha Fi Denshway (Happened in Denshway),” added Naser -- Albawaba.com
