UAE singer Ahlam has freed herself completely to work on a new humane cause of collecting donations to help the children of Syria.
The singer posted a picture of Syrian children crying on her official page on the internet social network Twitter and wrote beside it “Damascus is calling”. Ahlam stated that the picture symbolizes the agony faced by the children of Syria and had preferred to post it instead of photos of children who were murdered in the recent Houla Massacre that took place in the Syrian city of Homs. The singer said that she could not look at photographs of slaughtered children and her heart cannot bare it.
Ahlam’s Twitter page has over 500 thousand member and she called on all of them to take part in the new campaign she has launched to collect donations to help Syrian children and find ways of providing them with needed medical aid.
In response to accusations that donating money that comes from singing is not legit, Ahlam stated that the late Egyptian legend Umm Kulthum had donated all her jewelry to the Egyptian army and no one at the time considered it a sin. She added that despite the fact that she is an artist who wears expensive cloths and jewelry, she is still a human being who feels with the agony of others and feels it is her responsibility to do all she can to help those in need.
Ahlam announced that she will also seek the help of other artists to give donations.
