Patton Oswalt has had a rough couple of years.

The actor and comedian made headlines last summer when he announced his engagement to actress Meredith Salenger (The Journey of Natt Gann) because it closely followed—by a little over a year—the sudden death of his wife Michelle McNamara.

The widower publicly discussed his grief, detailing his struggle to overcome tragedy in elaborate, beautifully-expressive Facebook posts—beautifully expressive Facebook posts which did not deter public commentary on his engagement to Salenger.

The eventual result of this process was the release of Patton Oswalt: Annihilation on Netflix, a critically-acclaimed stand-up show in which Patton discusses grief...and last night's marriage to Salenger, with his daughter, Alice, at his side.

Congratulations, Patton Oswalt. Who needs the haters?

Oswalt's late wife Michelle McNamara was an astute, committed true crime writer, a highly talented amateur investigator who brought the East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker—the man she called "the Golden State Killer"—to public attention. The anxiety that the case gave her eventually lead to the sleeping pills she was taking, which proved fatal when mixed with an undiagnosed heart condition. You can read some of her work on the case here; an encyclopedia on the case can be at the Coldcase EARONS website.
