Organizers of the Jordanian summer festival Jarash have officially announced that Saudi singer Abdul Majid Abdullah will not be part of the summer program. Despite the huge popularity of the singer in Jordan, negotiations between him and the organizers came to an end and without reaching an agreement.
According to the Saudi based daily, Al Riyadh, Abdullah had requested a very high price for his performance at the festival. The Egyptian band accompanying Abdullah Abdul Majid demanded a wage of 85 thousands US dollars to hold two concerts, an amount which the committee of the festival refused to pay. The organizers said that the amount was overly exaggerated and their budget can not cover it, especially after the loss in profit in the past couple of years.
Jarash festival is held every summer in Jordan and lasts for three weeks, with different performances taking place every day. Arab singers always strive to be part of the festival which has proved to be a huge success over the years.
On a different note, Abdullah recently released his latest album “A’az El Nas” (The Dearest People), after continuos postponement due to his schedule that ran between Cairo, Turkey and Kuwait to record the songs. A number of prominent composers and poets were chosen for Abdul Majid’s album in order to have it meet the highest standards.
The album features 10 songs all sung in the Khaliji (Gulf) style. The singer is very hopeful that his album will find success around the Arab world. Abdullah added that his new release holds a number of surprises that show a different side to him. –Albawaba.com
