The Tunisian film Hobb Muharram (Forbidden Love) won the Best Feature Film Award at the 5th Susah International Festival for Childhood and Youth Films at the closing ceremony on Saturday, according to the daily Al Ahram.
The Egyptian film Wast Al Balad (Downtown) directed by Amir Ramsis won the Best Short Film Award and Asrar Al Banat (Girls' Secrets) by Magdi Ahmed Ali won the Golden Prize which is awarded by the audience. The scenarist for Asrar Al Banat, Azza Shalabi, also won the jury special award for “her corageous tackling of the film issue.”
Iran won two golden prizes for the children films The Color of Heaven, and Shangul and Mangul.
The festival special award went to the Moroccan film Ali Zawa, directed by Nabil Ayoush, for “tackling the issue of street children.”
Some 41 Arab, European, American and Asian countries participated in the event with 162 feature and short films.
