Egypt's old neighborhoods come to life again in Asafir Al Nil (Nile Birds), an upcoming film based on Ibrahim Asslan’s novel, which is a sequel to his work Malek Al Hazin (Heron), on which the film Al Kit Kat is based.

Asafir Al Nil tackles the world of marginalized poor people in the old Cairo neighborhood of Embabah and the emergence of its middle class since 1949, according to the daily Al Gomhuria.

The film was scripted by Naser Abdel Rahman, will be directed by Magdi Ahmed, and will costar Noor Al Sherif, Mahmoud Hemaidah and Fifi Abdoh.

“The reason behind choosing Fifi Abdoh for a starring role was due to the stages she performs in the film, from the age of 30 until the age of 70,” the director told the daily.
