Syrian director Mohammed Azeziyya is currently shooting his comedy heritage series Ahadith al Sammar (al Sammar’s Tales) based on a script by Diab Eid who previously wrote the series Hammam al Qishani.
The series with its separate and interrelated episodes is about Arab ancient tales and anecdotes full of lessons and benefit and will be ready for airing during the forthcoming Ramadhan.
Costarring in the series are Farah Bseso, Ahmed al Sayyed, Nabila al Nabulsi, Laila Sammour, Dima al Jondi and others.
“I wanted to present a drama that combines between originality and modernization. Every story has a new lesson and objective that may not be linked with the next one although all these stories have one common objective, the assertion on the original Arab values and ethics,” Eid told the UAE daily al Bayan.
Azeziyya said, “I collaborated with Diab Eid in the series Asateer Shaabiyya (Pop Legends) as he scripted the episodes in a distinctive manner that combined between the beauty of dialogue and distancing it from rhetoric which I was seeking. This is due to the fact that historic works indulge excessively in difficult language and artificiality to the extent that the viewer becomes at a loss from the difficult words and so misses much of the audiovisual enjoyment.”
“Most often many writers and directors tend to blend heritage works with comedy in an attempt to base the latter on history. No doubt this is a big mistake that confuses the viewer as well as the actor. Both sides cannot judge that what they see on the screen is real or simply something based on fantasy,” said al Sayyed -- Albawaba.com
