Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) and Earth Day Network became partners to celebrate Earth Day 2011. Since 1970, Earth Day has been embraced as not a single day of celebrations but as a process on a larger time scale, aiming at globally lifting environmental concerns to the daily agenda.

As part of this year’s celebrations, Earth Day Network has launched the largest voluntary environmental action campaign in the world; A Billion Acts of Green. Using its website, people, organizations and corporate entities can pledge their “Acts of Green” in honor of Earth Day. The goal of the network is to reach one billion pledges by 2012. To date, more than 66 million acts of green have been contributed.

With the inception of partnership with Earth Day Network as its UAE wing, EEG dedicates its ongoing activities, such as, Environmental Drawing Competition, Teacher’s Workshop, Interschool Environmental Public Speaking Competition and recycling campaigns regarding cans, paper, plastic, Tetra Pak and mobile phones to the Earth Day as significant contribution in sum towards A Billion Acts of Green. Furthermore, EEG is planning additional activities and lectures to raise awareness about this global cause.

Last but not least, EEG opens its doors to its members and partners, i.e. governmental bodies, the corporate sector, the academic institutions and the community at large in the UAE to register with us to participate with an act of green. An act of green could be any motion towards raising awareness and making a change towards a more sustainable living. However small it may seem, every single act will demonstrate how the inhabitants of Earth can join forces for a healthier planet that they all share.

EEG would like to thank every environmentally-conscious person, in advance, for their commitment for a better future.Earth Day Network was founded on the premise that all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment. Their mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment. They pursue their mission through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer activism campaigns. Their campaign and programs are predicated on the belief that an educated, energized population will take action to secure a healthy future for itself and its children. Earth Day Network has a global reach with a network of more than 20,000 partners and organizations in 190 countries. Earth Day Network is located in Washington, D.C.
