A young man stood trial at the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court for attempting to murder his grandmother.

The victim reported her grandson to the authorities after he allegedly locked her inside a vehicle and set it on fire, Al Bayan reported.

Authorities arrested the man, and filed the case with public prosecution, who later transferred it to the criminal court.

In the court, the Arab man denied all accusations, stressing that the fire broke out due to a leak in a gas cylinder of the vehicle.

Additionally, he stressed that the relation with his  grandmother has always been good, and they never had any disputes or problems.

The court was asked to hear the testimonies of the three witnesses presented by the defendant.

The first witness (the defendant's uncle) said that the fire occurred due to the gas cylinder leak, the second witness (the defendant's friend) emphasised on the same point. The third witness (the defendant's neighbor) said that he saw the defendant trying to rescue the grandmother from the burning vehicle.

The court adjourned the case to April 23.
