ALBAWABA The Culinary Arts Commission announced the addition of three traditional Saudi pastries to the "Creative Cities' Baking" initiative, under UNESCO's Creative Cities Network. This initiative highlights the historical and culinary significance of these pastries, underscoring the ongoing efforts to preserve cultural heritage for sustainable development.
The selected pastries represent three Saudi cities recognized by UNESCO for their contributions to culture and the arts. Al-Ahsa, known for its handicrafts and folk arts, Qassim Province's Buraidah, acknowledged for its culinary arts, and Taif, celebrated for its literary contributions, are the cities featured in this initiative.
Each pastry was chosen based on specific criteria, including the use of locally-prepared flour and strong cultural connections. Al-Ahsa's Al-Khubz Al-Ahmar, a bread made with dates and distinctive spices, Buraidah's Al-Kleija, a traditional sweet that reflects the region's heritage, and Taif's Al-Mallah Bread, one of the oldest baked goods in Saudi Arabia, are the pastries included.
This initiative highlights the cultural diversity and richness of Saudi Creative Cities through their unique pastries and preparation methods. It aligns with the Culinary Arts Commission's strategy to promote Saudi culinary arts on a global scale, emphasizing the importance of international cultural exchange and knowledge sharing.
