McDonald's Ain al-Mreisseh branch was fined LL24 million Sunday for violating lockdown measures against coronavirus, despite being open only for delivery service, an employee said.
An Internal Security Forces patrol unit fined the restaurant “for violating Cabinet’s administrative decision calling for general mobilization” in order to combat the coronavirus outbreak across the country.
The employee said that branch was very likely to close its doors Monday after receiving the ticket.
The police, along with other security agencies, have deployed on the ground since Sunday morning in order to ensure citizen’s commitment to government measures against the virus outbreak.
This came after Prime Minister Hassan Diab said Saturday evening that security forces would step up efforts to enforce measures that would keep citizens at home.
Earlier this month, the Syndicate of Owners of Restaurants, Cafes, Nightclubs and Patisseries called for the closure of restaurants all over Lebanon as an effort to fight the spread of coronavirus. However, the syndicate said at the time that delivery services would still be operating.
