ALBAWABA - A junk dealer named Luigi Lo Rosso recently made headlines after news circulated that he found a possible oil painting of Picasso 60 years ago.
Rosso found the oil painting in question while searching an Italian villa in 1962 which has been stored in a Milan vault since 2019, according to Robb Report. Moreover, it's estimated that the piece can go up to $6.6 million if it's authentic, as reported by CNN.
Junk dealer finds Picasso painting in trash, could be worth millions
He hid the painting away for decades because his wife hated it. While searching the basement of the Italian villa, Rosso found two paintings but only one had Picasso's signature on it. He then framed it and gifted it to his wife despite him not knowing it belonged to a famous painter.
The artwork was a painting of French poet Dora Maar who used to be Picasso's mistress and looked to be wearing a blue dress with red lipstick on.
Rosso's family asked for the assistance of Italy's Arcadia Foundation which is a professional in restoring artwork and handling valuations. Last month, Dr. Cinzia Altieri who is a graphologist for a patrimony court in Milan certified that the painting did belong to Picasso.
If the painting gets verified as an authentic artwork by the Picasso Foundation, it will get a significant spike in its pricing. According to Robb Report, a Picasso painting was sold for $95.2 million in a 2016 event making it the highest price ever for an artwork in an auction.
