Though abandoned for years, the 'Haunted Palace', as known here in Ras Al Khaimah is one of the most famous old, yet mysterious buildings in the northern emirates, is now open to the public.

The palace, built by the late Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi (RIP) in 1985, was meant to be a stunning architectural masterpiece, but it boggled the minds of horror and suspense stories enthusiasts.

It took 10 years for the four-floor palace built on a highland at Al Dheit area to be completed.

An attempt to turn it into an institute did not work, people were so passionate to explore this mysterious palace that is filled with spectacular antique artifacts and paintings.

The milestone building, consisting of 35 rooms, has a glass pyramid on the top to let the sun in, and add more beauty to the palace which is mostly decorated with Islamic, Moroccan, Indian and Persian designs.

The many glass chandeliers, especially imported from Belgium and France reflect a lustre mixed in four colours.

The marble paths, statues, and stuffed animals add to the beauty and mystery of the palace which is now opened to the public from 9 am to 7 pm, against Dh75 for individuals, and Dh50 for groups.
