Beirut Sunday broke the Guinness World Record for the “most national flags displayed in one city in 24 hours,” beating a record held by Waterloo, New York since 2000.
By 4 p.m. Sunday, a total 26,852 small Lebanese flags were strung across Beirut's Nijmeh Square, according to the state-run National News Agency, surpassing the 25,898 American flags that had been raised nearly two decades ago in the American town.

Volunteers also unfurled a long Lebanese flag at the record-breaking event, which was organized by the Beirut Alive Association under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
MP Rola Tabsh attended the event and congratulated Beirut Alive on its achievement, saying, “No flag rises higher than the Lebanese flag.”
