ALBAWABA The Algerian authorities have initiated a significant recall of women's clothing from the market bearing a Chinese brand known for its online sales. These products have been found to pose severe health risks, including cancer, asthma, and other diseases.
The Directorate of Commerce in the Wilaya of Oran, working closely with security authorities, has launched extensive and comprehensive operations to remove all items of this brand that are on display, being marketed, distributed, or sold. These actions follow confirmation that the products contain toxic and illegal substances.
These toxic substances are dangerous as they can cause serious diseases if inhaled, touched directly, or come into contact with the skin.
In an initial sweep, security forces confiscated 139 pieces of dresses of various sizes and models. These garments were woven with fibers containing a high percentage of harmful chemicals and were being sold at extremely low prices in a shopping center.
Hajj Ali Abdel Hakim, the General Coordinator for Consumer Protection in Oran, stated that tests conducted on samples of this company's clothing confirmed the warnings from consumer advocates about the health risks posed by these items. The toxic substances used in their manufacture present significant dangers to users and those exposed to them.
Abdel Hakim explained that the problem centers on dangerous and illegal chemical compounds known as "formaldehyde." This substance is typically used in embalming processes, glue manufacturing, and other applications unrelated to living cells. It is known to cause cancer when inhaled or when it comes into contact with the skin.
The recall underscores the need for stringent regulatory measures to ensure the safety of consumer products, particularly those imported from international markets. The Algerian authorities' swift action aims to protect public health and prevent further exposure to these hazardous materials.
