ALBAWABA - Cruise liners are coming to Aqaba in droves at the height of the tourism season in Jordan, which began in October and will end in February.
To increase this type of tourism to the southern part of Jordan, a new marina was built for cruise ships. It will be operational by Jan. 25, according to Nidal Majali, environment and tourism commissioner at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

The Jordan Times said the marina will bolster tourism activity to the Red Sea resort city on the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba, bringing in sightseers aboard cruise and other ships.

So far, 34 cruise ships docked at Aqaba port to enjoy the sun and warm temperatures in the area. Majali said by early December, eight cruise liners with 2,700 tourists abroad each arrived in Aqaba.

He noted that 96 other cruise ships confirmed their arrival in Aqaba in the next few months, pointing out that the resort city receives 40 percent of the world’s cruise ship tourism, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
