Dubai: As the end of Ramadan draws close, the countdown for Eid Al Fitr has started in the UAE.
While excitement builds for the holiday with the usual Eid activities, such as shopping for outfits and sweets, a different trend emerged on Twitter. Tweeps took to the social media platform to jokingly rant about their Eid pains or “#3eedpains”.
In fact, so many people were tweeting their holiday frustrations simultaneously that it was one of the top trends in the UAE on Monday and the topic continued to be in focus yesterday [Tuesday], too.
One popular issue among the many grumbling tweeps was being too old to receive the traditional Eid gift of money, or eidiya, usually distributed by adults to younger children.
Toonyboy123, under the twitter handle @GhostAlz, said: “Someone giving 3ediyah to all the kids in the room and skipping you. #3eedpains”
@nujjoud tweeted: “#3eedpains since I’m an adult now I don’t get 3ediyah …I give 3ediyah.”
Another tweep, @Bedouindiaries, had a similar problem, tweeting: “When a kid stares at your pocket, I’m not gonna give you a 3ediyah, go away #3eedpains.”
For others the problem seemed to be meeting too many relatives and confusing the proper Arabic holiday Eid greetings to say to them.
“Not knowing how to reply to their Eid greetings #3eedpains,” was a popularly retweeted comment by a number of tweeps, such as @sadeemOD, @LeTamy_ and @DaniAdnanxoxo.
@_Saraberry tweeted: “#3eedpains meeting ‘relatives’ you never knew existed.”
For Olla Mohammad, socialising with relatives is exhausting, according to her tweet. She said: “#3eedpains smiling and nodding the whole day to your relatives.”
Alyazia Al Mazroui, tweeting from @AlyaziaKM, said: “#3eedpains spending time with relatives you don’t even know.” In another tweet Al Mazroui said: “Acting like you don’t know why your aunt or uncle called you when they’re about to give you money.”
Ruba Sharkas tweeted: “Having your parents call you every five minutes to greet a relative on the phone #3eedpains.”
Other Eid pains were about the overcrowded streets and malls.
Faith or @sugaxxxx, tweeted: “When the malls are crowded in addition to cinemas, parks and restaurants too! #3eedpains.”
@EmyyAy47 tweeted: “Salons are crowded as if there’s no tomorrow.”
For @EmanErsheid, her Eid pain involved too much food. She tweeted: “#3eedpains being forced to eat all kinds of fruits and desserts.”
Abdullah Fadel shared the same problem. He wrote: “#3eedpains when you must eat chocolate everytime you visit one of you’re relatives… diet is ruined.”
Although people are still tweeting their #3eedpains, Eid is also trending in the UAE. It seems beneath the #3eedpains, people are excited about the festive season.
