While the Sydney siege continues, many Muslims in Australia have grown concerned over fears of a backlash against them, seeing as the gunman holding hostages forced people to pin up a jihadist flag against the cafe window, where they remain trapped.
Don’t lose hope though, mate – positive tweeters came together offering help to Muslims with the hashtag #IllRideWithYou to quell fears from the religious group riding public transport and feeling unsafe amid the situation.
Twitter user Sir Tessa @sirtessa offered to sit with Muslims on buses, with some people even suggesting they'd walk beside others to help out.
“If you reg take the #373 bus b/w Coogee/MartinPI, wear religious attire, & don’t feel safe alone: I’ll ride with you. @ me for schedule,” she tweeted.
“Read the #illridewithyou hashtag, Australians offering to ride with Muslims who feel unsafe during this horrible situation,” said another Twitter user @BageISmalls.
The gunman holding hostages might be as popular as a rattle snake in a lucky dip right now, but Aussies came together to unite against his actions.
