The talk show “Ahmar Bil-Khatt al-Arid” aired an episode on the topic of sex education Wednesday evening, despite attempts by the National Audio-Visual Council to prevent the LBCI television network from broadcasting the program.
“We received calls, criticism and warnings … but we insisted on airing tonight’s show on sex education because it informs our society,” host Malik Maktabi said during the show’s introduction.
Earlier in the day, the council sent a letter to the station, warning that LBCI could possibly have violated national audio-visual law by airing promos for the episode.
According to the council, the promos were aired at a time when children would be still awake and watching television.
“Those who wager on our patience and leniency in implementing the law are completely mistaken,” the council said in a statement.
Maktabi told the studio audience of children and parents and viewers at home that sex education is a matter of public health.
