In Saudi Arabia, a little flesh can go a long way but for one local man it wasn’t the female variety that led to blackmail and arrests.
All the ingredients were there for a Ramadan style TV drama but this time it was happening for real. In a court case hitting the headlines this week in the desert kingdom, an enterprising young woman from the eastern province of Al Hasa, tried to use naked photos of a Saudi man to extort money from him.
The lady in question tried to blackmail him for SR2.3 million (over US$600,000) but instead of paying her the money, the red-faced man reported her to the notorious Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Muttawa.)
The Commission is no friend of Saudi women and coached the 50-year-old blackmail victim on how to entrap the lady in question so they could send her to the police.
According to Saudi Arabic language daily, ‘Sabq’ newspaper, it was down to the Commission to organize details of the arrest: “He went to an agreed meeting and handed her the money. Once she opened the bag to count the money, Commission members jumped and arrested her.”
So far there has been no information released as to how the woman got her hands on naked photos of a man she apparently didn’t know. The case continues…
Should this woman be arrested? How did she get the naked photos in the first place? Tell us your thoughts and conspiracy theories below.
