A Saudi man found guilty of murdering a compatriot was beheaded by sword on Monday, the country’s interior ministry said.
Mohammed bin Khamees al-Hantushi al-Enzi shot dead Ibrahim bin Marfu al-Enzi after a dispute and was executed in the city of Hafr al-Batin, AFP says.
Human rights group Amnesty International has criticized the Kingdom’s capital punishment record in the past with what they say is a sharp increase of executions from 27 in 2010, to 82 in 2011, which includes 28 foreigners.
The UN High Commission for Human Rights condemned a “sharp increase in the use of capital punishment,” according to AFP
Under Saudi Arabia’s strict interpretation of Sharia law, rape, adultery, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are punishable by death.
