A website designed to help Muslim men find second wives all over the world has more than 100,000 users, a quarter of them are in the United Kingdom. Yup, you read that right.
Polygamy, where a person has more than one spouse, is illegal in the U.K. — carrying a possible prison sentence of up to seven years.
SecondWife.com, however, brands polygamy as more “honorable” than cheating on your wife or using prostitutes. It also claims that it builds “bigger and better families.”
While there are no official figures, it is estimated that there may be as many as 20,000 polygamous marriages in the U.K.
Founder Azad Chaiwala told the BBC that he launched the website during his own search for a second wife.
“It benefits women as well as men,” he added.
